Prayer in the Biblical context can be termed as the supernatural communication between man and God. Taking the Biblical example of the book of Acts 4:31, the disciples prayed before preaching the word of God. In fact it was so powerful that the place that they were standing shook; they were immediately filled with the Spirit of God. This enabled them to go out and preach the gospel boldly. For any Bible sermon to be effective, on must pray before preaching. Jesus himself made several references to prayer. In fact he plainly stated that some demons could only be cast out through prayer and fasting. He being the son of God was a perfect example. He excluded himself from the public and went to secret places to pray. In fact before starting his ministry of preaching the Kingdom of God to the people he went into prayer and fasting for forty days. This emphasizes on the importance of prayer in issuing any Biblical sermon.
It is said that Satan mocks and laughs at the believers’ plans and priorities but trembles when they pray. Prayer makes it possible for a Bible sermon to have a lasting impact on the peoples’ lives. It is only through prayer that the lies of the devil can be countered. If not then he will have good time whispering lies in the ears of true believers. Praying before issuing sermons leaves no room for deception but the truth. Deception is a significant tool that Satan uses to win even the believers to his side. No wonder Jesus always advised His disciples to pray so as to ensure that they do not fall into temptation. This is even evident in the Lord’s Prayer. Without prayer a preacher may easily yield to deceptive spirits without notice, while the congregation will find it difficult to realize that they are being lied to.
